KOKOMO, Ind. (February 22, 2021) – Kokomo officials are asking the public for input to help define and strengthen the community’s arts and culture scene.

The City of Kokomo and the Greater Kokomo Downtown Association are asking the public to help as the organizations work toward a Cultural District designation from the Indiana Arts Commission, a distinction for districts that are well-recognized, labeled, mixed-use areas with a unique, authentic art and cultural identity.

The Indiana Arts Commission provides project funding for designated Indiana Cultural Districts, facilitates statewide collaboration through the Indiana Cultural District Consortium, and provides other capacity-building opportunities for cultural district leadership.

Last year, Kokomo was designated as one of only four Spotlight Communities, meaning the city is able to pursue the Cultural District designation. Only 10 Indiana communities currently have the designation.

To help attain the designation, the City of Kokomo and Downtown Association are asking community members to fill out a survey reflecting on the community’s arts, culture and maker programs. Those who complete the survey before March 6 will be entered to win a $25 gift card. The survey can be found on the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance website at https://greaterkokomo.com/downtown/kokomo-maker-arts-culture-survey
