Pieces on display in Artist Alley available for purchase

Artist Alley Art Sale offers a chance to purchase one of the great pieces currently on display in Artist Alley, an outdoor art gallery in downtown Kokomo.

Blue Skies Auction currently has 16 items cataloged at KokomoArtSale.com, including paintings and multimedia artwork. Items will be available for bid though Aug. 12.

Most of the pieces are large scale, suitable as a feature piece for both inside and outside. The pieces are part of the 2021-22 exhibit in Artist Alley, which is located on Main Street next to Artworks Gallery, 210 N. Main St.

As each exhibit draws to a close, the pieces are sold with a portion of the proceeds reinvested in the alley.

“This sale affords the community a chance to support local artists and the Greater Kokomo Downtown Association’s art and culture development efforts,” said Susan Alexander, manager of the Downtown Association.

Some of the artists’ whose work is currently on display will take part in First Friday. From 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, artists will host their artwork and some will demonstrate their artwork in the alley.

The current exhibit will be taken down at the close of the online art sale. Alexander said the 2022-2023 exhibit will be unveiled with an opening reception during First Friday on Sept. 2. The free reception is open to the community, and attendees will have the opportunity to take a guided tour of the new exhibits and hear from each artist.

Artists have already been selected for the coming exhibit and are currently finishing their pieces. The coming exhibit will feature 18 paintings and five sculptures. Alexander said the exhibit will be the larger to date.

“As this exhibit enters its ninth year, I think it’s shown how art can enliven a community,” Alexander said. “This exhibit has been a pillar to the growing art scene in the Kokomo community.”
