celebrating the season in style
Downtown Kokomo gets all spruced up each year for the holidays with its vibrant Christmas lights and festive decor. This year, the Greater Kokomo Downtown Association wants to increase downtown’s holiday spirit by hosting a window display decorating contest for the downtown businesses.
This competition is open to all businesses within the Kokomo Downtown District. The theme will be “Old Fashioned Holiday.” In order to be eligible for the contest, businesses must fill out the form here no later than Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. The windows must be fully decorated by Nov. 22. There is no limit to how windows can be decorated, but it is recommended that displays be family-friendly and say “holidays” and not “Christmas” to foster diversity in our community (Happy Holidays, Season’s Greetings, etc. are acceptable). Businesses can create elaborate displays or do something as simple as painting windows.
Once all the businesses have fully decorated their windows and storefronts, it is up to the community to determine which one is the best! Each business will have a QR code displayed near their display where visitors can scan to vote. Each visitor can only vote for one business, so it is required to decide on one favorite! Voting will open to the public on Nov. 22 and will close on Dec. 5.
The winner will be announced at the start of First Friday: Ugly Sweater on Dec. 6. The winning business will receive a special glass ornament from Kokomo Opalescent Glass and a wooden plaque with engraved leather from Back Woods Trading Co. to display in their window display or building.
