Downtown Association goes green with sustainable updates to First Friday
Association reduces use of paper materials for the monthly event
KOKOMO, Ind. (Apr. 1, 2025) – The Greater Kokomo Downtown Association is making First Fridays more sustainable by reducing single-use paper materials and introducing digital alternatives. Beginning with First Friday April, which is themed as Go Green, attendees will access event details through their phones instead of paper handouts.
Visitors to downtown will now find a mobile-friendly digital list of participating businesses and event details on the First Friday website. This information can be accessed by scanning a QR code that will be displayed at several prominent locations in downtown, including the four corners of the Courthouse Square.
Additionally, the signage posted throughout downtown and at participating businesses will be reused each month, making the event more environmentally friendly on an ongoing basis. These updates make it easier for guests to navigate the event while cutting down on unnecessary paper waste.
“First Fridays aim to help the community explore and connect with local businesses, artists, and organizations,” said Susan Alexander, downtown initiatives manager for the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance. “By putting information in people’s hands, it will help them maximize that experience.”
First Friday: Go Green will be held on April 4, and it will celebrate Earth Month and springtime with eco-friendly and nature-inspired activities. Like Go Green, First Fridays feature a special theme and activities that bring the community together to celebrate local art and spirit in downtown Kokomo. Each event is held on the first Friday of select months from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with First Friday After Hours beginning shortly after.
