Behind the Scenes with Fresh Fix Café

Nikki Williams shares her experience with the Level Up Business Branding program

August’s Level Up by Inventrek Tech Park spotlight goes behind the scenes with Nikki Williams, owner of Fresh Fix Café, to share her experience in the program. From stepping in front of the camera to discovering new ways to showcase her business, Nikki found the program full of surprises, inspiration, and practical tools she’s excited to put into action.

Expectations vs. Reality

When asked if the program met her expectations, Nikki laughed: “I didn’t really know what to expect. I think it’s above and beyond what I expected.”

From on-camera videos to professional photos, the hands-on experience helped her see her business — and herself — in a whole new light.

Learning to Shine on Camera

At first, Nikki was a little nervous about being on camera. But with guidance from Ahmad McKinnie, the photographer and videographer, she quickly felt at ease. “He was great at prompting and making you feel comfortable …  ‘Don’t look at the camera, don’t talk to them — talk to me.,’ he would tell me.”

This simple shift made all the difference, and Nikki says it helped her gain confidence in sharing her story visually.

A New Perspective on Marketing

One of the biggest takeaways? How much thought goes into visuals and marketing.

“Pictures are huge. I never thought about framing, cropping, and posing like that… I can do this from my phone, and it can be better.”

The program helped Nikki see her café in a fresh way, inspiring ideas she’s excited to implement — from creative content to new menu promotions.

Fresh Ideas in Action

Even her approach to products has shifted. After filming a video of herself stirring a boba drink, Nikki admitted: “He actually made me want to promote more drinks. I want more people to try them. I’m going to do a drink special each week.”

Small changes like these are already shaping how she connects with her customers.

Advice to Fellow Entrepreneurs

Reflecting on her experience, Nikki had one clear piece of advice for other business owners: “Absolutely need to do it. Just for the experience if nothing else. I can’t wait to put all this content out there.”

In terms of confidence? “Yes. I know the content and all the ideas … as long as I can keep taking great pictures, I’ll be fine.”

Level Up gave Nikki more than photos and videos — it gave her new perspective, creative energy, and renewed confidence. And for the Kokomo community, it’s another reason to stop by Fresh Fix Café and see what she’s cooking up next. And then
