HKCB Wholesale wins $10,000 in Inventrek’s Drive competition

Annual contest fuels local entrepreneurship and celebrates innovation

KOKOMO, Ind. (Oct. 21, 2025) – The entrepreneurial spirit was on full display Thursday night, Oct. 9, as HKCB Wholesale took home the top prize in The Drive, Inventrek Technology Park’s annual business pitch competition.

Held at Ivy Tech’s Hingst Hall, marked the fifth year for the “Shark Tank”-style contest, which awards $10,000 in seed money to a local entrepreneur to help grow or launch their business.

HKCB Wholesale, owned by Kayla Sager, was selected by a panel of judges following live pitches from three finalists. The children’s clothing brand focuses on high-quality, sustainable fabrics and original designs that combine comfort and style. Sager plans to use the prize money to increase inventory and expand her wholesale reach.

“This experience has been incredible,” Sager said. “The Drive gave me the chance to refine my business plan, gain valuable feedback, and connect with so many supportive people in the community. Winning means I can take HKCB Wholesale to the next level, and I’m so grateful to God for this opportunity.”

Other finalists included Brix & Co. Candles, owned by Adrean Lamberg, and The Squee Gees, owned by Ethan Hasting and Mason Kaiser. Each presented their growth plans to judges and a public audience of community members, business leaders, and fellow entrepreneurs.

“The Drive continues to showcase the creativity and determination of local business owners,” said Lori Dukes, president and CEO of the Greater Kokomo Alliance. “It’s inspiring to see how much drive there is right here in our community. Kayla’s business is a great example of the kind of homegrown success stories we’re proud to support.”

Since March, the finalists have worked closely with Alliance staff to develop their business plans and strengthen their pitches. This mentorship, combined with the public showcase, helps equip participants for long-term success, said Caitlin Sheets, manager of economic development for the Alliance.

“The Drive is about more than one night or one prize,” Sheets said. “It’s about connecting entrepreneurs with the resources, guidance, and encouragement they need to keep moving forward. We’re proud of all three finalists and excited to see where their journeys lead.”

The 2025 event was sponsored by CPS Midwest, City of Kokomo, Huston Electric, Community First Bank of Indiana, Duke Energy, Foster Technologies, Shearer Printing and Office Solutions, Mid America Beverage Inc., Elsewhen Technology, Clifford Signs, and Ivy Tech Community College.
